I was breezing through Call of Duty 2 on Veteran with only a few places where I had any real trouble. I persevered and then WHAM, I met The Silo level.
You start out fighting Nazis across an open field in Beaumont-Hague on a cloudy June 14, 1944 — that part is no problem, especially since the main weapon that you're given is a sniper rifle. Once those bastards are lying in puddles of Nazi blood, your next mission is to clear all of the Nazis out of the adjoining village. There are six buildings and you can do it in any order. It sounds like it should be easy, and I was able to take the first building after several tries, but it's really fucking hard — to the point where the game isn't fun anymore. I started looking online for some tips, and it seems a lot of people have trouble with this level.
The problem, as I've come to realize with all of the Call of Duty games, is that the enemies spawn infinitely here. So while I was eventually able to capture one building, it's not like I can sit inside it and take out the Nazis in the next building. Another part of the problem is that your fellow soldiers don't move in fast enough once you've reached an area. So when they aren't bumbling in your way and blocking your shots, they're too far behind you, which turns what you're doing into a suicide mission. It's all very frustrating. I think I tried getting from Building A to the Nazi HQ building (Building F) for about 3 hours, the same two minutes over and over, until I decided I wasn't even remotely enjoying the game anymore and mostly gave up. I even tried to take different buildings instead, but the results was always the same: death and starting over in Building A.
I had been working on trying to complete World at War and Modern Warfare on Veteran, but I'm also stuck in places on each of those games. I don't mind a challenge, but if playing the same 2 minutes of game over and over before I fail is supposed to be fun, I'm going to pass and move on to a game that actually is fun. I've decided I'm not going to purchase any more Call of Duty games or games by Infinity Ward.
